Danene Cruickshank is Miss St Catherine Festival Queen
DANENE Cruickshank was crowned Miss St Catherine Festival Queen on Sunday at Southborough Primary School in Independence City, Portmore.
Wearing the sash of St Catherine Parish Council, the 24-year-old contestant topped six rivals. She also won the grand prize of $25,000; and the sectional prize for Best Performance which earned her an
additional $10,000.
Tishawna Daley, wearing the sash of St Catherine Cooperative Credit Union, was first runner-up. She took the sectional prize for being the Most Culturally Aware contestant for a total of $15,000 in prize money.
Second runner-up was Latisa Prescott (National People Co-operative Bank). She received $10,000.
“This is something I always wanted. I was always hungry for it and I worked assiduously to get this honour (Miss St Catherine) under my belt. It was crazy work and preparation,” an elated Cruickshank told the Jamaica Observer.
Twenty-year-old Stacy Ann Nelson (Rodney’s Memorial) won two sectional prizes: Most Poised and Most Congenial.
Theresa Gordon (SCCU Readi Loan), Ayanna Bennett (Pollyanna Caterers and Banqueters) and Moyah Pearson (Jamaica Energy Partners) also competed.
Entertainment was provided by reigning Digicel Rising Stars winner, saxophonist Verlando Small, who was backed by the Sub-Ten Music Company Band. He performed the pop standards Everything I Own, Stay With You, Land of Love and First Cut.
