Reggae Fusion connects
Despite the no-show of headliner Sizzla, last Friday’s Reggae Fusion show at Redbones Blues Café in St Andrew delivered quality performances.
C K, Keznamdi, Sanjay ‘Stuna’ Barrett of the Mystical Revolution Band and the No-Maddz compensated for Sizzla’s absence, much to the delight of the audience.
In a stunning white outfit, C K was in good voice, kicking things off with an alluring rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors. She followed with the original I Found Me and Roberta Flack’s Killing Me Softly.
Keznamdi maintained the momentum with his brand of Roots, Rock, Reggae (the title of one of his songs), Supernatural, Darkness and Gideon which he did with his sister Kellisa and singer Jamie Wilmott.
The Mystical Revolution Band, with front man Stuna Barrett were impressive. Barrett was energetic throughout on Revolution Medley, Hustler, Divide and Rule, Love You Still and Love Won’t Leave Me Alone. The entertaining event climaxed with the dynamic No-Maddz. The quartet proved their versatility by living up to the name of the event, effectively combining comedy, poetry and singing.
Opening with the song Romance, they moved into trademark material such as Bongo Music and Sort Yuh Life Jamaica before closing with what has become their signature narrative, Rise Above Profanity (Poo, Poo, Poo).
