God go wid Nadine Blair
LOVE FM’s Nadine Blair has made her professional acting debut in playwright Dahlia Harris’ new production, God Go Wid Yuh.
In an interview with Splash, Blair said she was surprised when she got the call from Harris.
“I was asked if I could ‘act, sing and dance’. Well, I nervously told Dahlia yes and started rehearsals, a bit uncertain but knowing it was a fabulous opportunity.”
While she was excited about working with Harris, Blair had some concerns.
“Will I remember the words, will I have the time? Well, I prayed and made a conscious decision to move some things out of my schedule for the duration and I’m having a blast,” she said.
God Go Wid Yuh opened on Sunday, May 12, and has been a hit with the audience. Reflecting on opening night, Blair said she was “nervous but ready!”
“My team members are more seasoned in this and they helped to encourage me. I just went through and did ma thing and with God’s help, Dahlia’s direction and the support of the team, God go wid wi fi true,” she added.
Blair (who alternates with Julene Robinson) plays several characters in the Christian comedy. These include a spirited uptown church member, a cantankerous neighbour and dedicated church elder.
Hanover-born Blair is an announcer at LOVE FM and singer with the Perpetual Praise gospel group. She said God Go Wid Yuh gave her the chance to fulfill a lifelong dream, that of appearing in a major theatre production.
“Having done ‘church acting’ in my teen days it was something I wanted to do,” she said.
The cast of God Go Wid Yuh completed by Carl Samuels, Shantol Jackson, Shanique Brown, Tesfa Edwards and Jomo Dixon.
