FANS of World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight champion, Jamaican Nicholas Walters, will see the star boxer live on television for the first time in the United Kingdom and Europe when he defends his world title next week Saturday.

Walters, who defends his title a second time against Armenian southpaw Vakhtang “Vic” Darchinyan at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort in Macoa, China, will be seen by UK and European eyes by way of Box Nation TV.

Jamaican-born British boxing pronoter, author and businessman, Al Hamilton told the Jamaica Observer in an interview yesterday that the television deal was inked through his initiative.

“I was able to convince promoter Frank Warren, who owns the TV outfit, to bid for the British and European rights,” said Port Maria, St Mary-born Hamilton.

“Walters, who I have gone on record, both in Jamaica and England, in speaking to the potency of his talent, will be the next boxing superstar emanating from the ‘Rock'”, added Hamilton, who holds the honour of Member of the British Empire (MBE).

Regarding next Saturday’s fight, Hamilton, who runs the popular and prominent annual Commonwealth Sports Awards, ventured out on a limb in predicting who the likely winner of the contest will be.

“Walters will definitely take this one too and I believe that he will end the fight inside six rounds,” the veteran boxing official stated.

Walters, 28, nicknamed ‘The Axeman’, knocked out Colombian Daulis Prescott in the seventh round to lift the WBA’s vacant featherweight title on December 8, 2012 in Kingston.

The Montego Bay-born Walters is the son of former boxer ‘Smokin’ Job Walters, who is now into training boxers.

The Roehampton Primary and Anchovy High School attendee is likely to be heavily favoured by bookmakers to retain his title, what with the rapid improvement in his ring skills and overall fitness.

Vakhtang, 38, has a career record of 39 wins, six losses and one draw, with 28 of his wins coming by way of knockout.

The Angelo Hyder-trained boxer is the first ethnic Armenian to win a world title, doing so on December 16, 2004 by way of an 11th round technical knockout over previously unbeaten Colombian Irene Pacheco.

Vakhtang has won the International Boxing Federation (IBF) flyweight title, is a former undisputed super flyweight champion of the World Boxing Council and the IBF and is also responsible for winning four International Boxing Organisation titles in three weight divisions.
