Changes for Styleweek 2014
THERE will be a significant change to this year’s Styleweek Jamaica, scheduled for May 22-25.
Deiwght Peters, CEO of the Saint International model agency and conceptualiser of the eight-year-old event, said the programme will be extended by a day.
“Styleweek Jamaica will be four days of shows. This is an extension of the usual three-day schedule,” Peters told Jamaica Observer.
Activities include: Glitz Glam ‘N Style at the Mercedes-Benz Showspace on South Camp Road on Thursday; Supermodel City Lockdown, which will see three fashion shows at Macau Gaming Lounge and Opa Greek Restaurant in Kingston and FAMOUS Nightclub in Portmore on Friday; International Mecca of Style at Mercedes-Benz Showspace on Saturday and Fashionblock on Knutsford Boulevard.
“The only public event is Fashionblock which sets a new bar in local fashion events,” Peters said. “This brings up to 12,000 fashion fans to our capital to witness a fashion spectacle. The event’s dynamism helps in uniquely positioning Kingston as a fashion/lifestyle capital.”
Jamaican designers Neah Lis, TNT Fashions Tasha Gordon, HOD by Gregory Williams, Nina, Kaydian Nicely, Karl Brown, Heather Layne for Elan, and Balla Sean will unveil Spring/Summer 2015 collections.
The international roster includes Donnovan Depass of New York and Kevin Obrian from Paris.
Peters estimates the production tab this year could be $25 million. However, the benefits are immeasurable.
“There are many spin-offs from Styleweek Jamaica. Firstly, designers who showcase experience an increase in business post-event. In preparing for the event there is an increase in purchasing of materials, employing tailors and seamstresses and employing assistants,” he noted. “There is a multiplier effect on this
economic activity.”
