For Ladies only
IT’S a career the average Jamaican male would shy away from but not Marlon Birbridge. He’s an exotic dancer and proud of it.
The 34-year-old is founder of Devine Men of Choice, an adult entertainment venue for ladies only, located on Old Hope Road in St Andrew.
The company has been around since 2010.
According to Birbridge, the group of 24 dancers caters mainly to ladies of corporate Jamaica between the ages of 25 and 60. They perform throughout the island as well as in Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago.
Birbridge says Devine Men is not about a group of ‘dancing men’ in underwear. Their objective is to destress clients.
He is quick to point out that the service does not go beyond dancing.
“The service doesn’t lend a hand to any form of sexual intercourse and this is stated clearly in the contract that the guys signed. Therefore, it would be instant dismissal if the contract is not honoured,” he told the Sunday Observer.
Birbridge says he was first introduced to exotic dancing by a friend while living in New York City several years ago. Initially, he was sceptical.
“I was against it as I thought it was gay. It was years later that I got the courage to visit one of the clubs that he worked and I realised that the patrons were only females,” he related. “The venue was packed and the guys made thousands of dollars that night.”
After returning to Jamaica in 2010, Birbridge said he and three friends enrolled in a gym to improve their physical appearance. That accomplished, they went into business.
Things have been so good, Devine Men of Choice have rapidly increased their number of dancers. Birbridge says the job is not a song and dance.
“It is very hard work, one that requires lots of hours in the gym. However, when the brand is marketed properly it is very beneficial financially.”
