JaVA names 12 for 2014 World Championships Qualifiers
SEVEN local-based and five overseas-based players have been selected to the 12-member national senior women’s volleyball team, which will contest the 2014 World Championships Qualifiers in Mississauga, Canada.
The local-based players are Kai Wright, Kamille Dwyer, Latoya Headley, Shedieky Hamilton-Barnes, Tasha Gay Richards, Petal Smith, and Sashalee Wallen, while the overseas-based players include Brianna Lakman, Lecia Brown, Gillian Asque, Simone Asque and Tahlia Bishop.
Coach Ortnel Findlay said the squad has been in training camp for the past week and a half and the coaching staff, which includes world-renowned trainer Chris Paul, is working assiduously to ensure that the team is properly prepared for the difficult but achievable task at hand, qualifying for the World Championships.
JaVA President Steve Brown said that with all the preparation that the team has undergone, he is confident that the girls will do well in Canada and will also be a force to be reckoned with in the future.
The 12 will journey to Canada to compete in their third and final qualification tournament, which will take place from May 14-20. Success in this tournament will see the women journeying to Italy to compete in the 2014 World Championships.
