All set for Hi-Lyte Open Junior Tennis Championships
Over the years the Llockett McGrgegor Tennis Series has assisted with the growth and development of many of the island’s top tennis players. Some of these players have represented Jamaica at the local and international level and have demonstrated the importance of competition at all levels.
This weekend over 100 players will bow into action and sharpen their skills as they participate in the sixth annual Hi-Lyte Open Junior Tennis Championships, scheduled for May 10-11, 2014 at the Liguanea Club.
The contestants will vie for trophy prizes in the categories Boys 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 and Girls 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 and under.
In addition to trophy prizes, the winners in each category will also receive points towards their national ranking.
One of the highlights of this tournament is the Hi-Lyte Sportsmanship Award which will be presented at the end of the championships to a junior boy and girl based on their on-court and off-court conduct and demeanour.
Julette Ho-Sang, brand marketing manager of Hi-Lyte Sport Mix, said her company Virginia Dare Limited is pleased with the performance of the players and the overall quality of the tournament each year.
“The tournament helps to develop the skills and overall personal development of these players. Several of these players have played in the tournament over the years and it has been very rewarding to see their continued development,” Ho-Sang said.
Tournament Director Llockett McGregor said he is pleased that Hi-Lyte has continued its involvement in the tournament, especially during the prevailing economic conditions.
“Each year we ensure that the tournament is of the highest quality and the players and officials do not disappoint us. We are also happy that Hi-Lyte has continued this partnership with us so that we can continue to develop and grow tennis in Jamaica,” McGregor said.
Saturday’s set of matches will start at 9:00 am with the finals scheduled to be held on Sunday May 11, 2014 at 12:30 pm.
