Buccaneers make rowdy start to Lime Cup
IF you want it, come and get it!
That’s the message from defending champions Appleton Buccaneers, as the Peter Chin-led outfit swung their way to an impressive opening day in the Caribbean’s leading team match-play golf tournament, the Lime Cup.
Playing on their home course and making the most of familiar surroundings, the Appleton Buccaneers took control of the competition with back-to-back wins in rounds one and two, which were both contested on Sunday at the Caymanas Golf Club.
In what was a repeat of last year’s finale — minus the nail-biting run-in — the Appleton Buccaneers turned back five-time finalists Advantage Generals 9-1 in round one with Don Anderson’s win over Jason Sharp being the only blemish on an otherwise positive scorecard for the title-holders.
The ATL Springs also got off to a positive start, turning back the Sportsmax MaxPak 6-5 to 3-5, while CEEN Legends got the better of Lime Lions 7-3, as the tournament continued where it left off last year with some exciting golf in its sixth season curtain-raiser.
Round two saw the Appleton Buccaneers continuing their positive start, swinging their way to a 5-0 win over last year’s third place finishers the Sportsmax MaxPak with the ATL Springs following suit, helping themselves to a 4-1 victory over the Lime Lions, who suffered yet another loss after last season’s last-place finish.
In the other round two fixture, Advantage Generals and the CEEN Legends locked horns in a 2-5 deadlock, as both teams now focus on making up ground on the leaders in the upcoming rounds.
However, the advantage of home course with the tournament moving to Cinnamon Hill Golf and Country Club for the playing of rounds three and four on May 18, may just be what the Advantage Generals need to push them toward the top of the leaderboard.
Second place is occupied by the ATL Springs, who sit pretty on 16.5 points with the CEEN Legends (13) and the Advantage Generals (six). The Lime Lions are next in fifth place on five points with the Sportsmax
MaxPak occupying the cellar on
three-and-half points.
