Pelicans, MICO ‘A’ continue unbeaten streak in SVL Major League netball
UWI Pelicans and Mico ‘A’ maintained their unbeaten runs with convincing wins in the 2014 Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL)/Netball Jamaica Major League competition at the Leila Robinson Courts last Saturday.
With majority of the teams completing their matches last Saturday, they will now look towards the quarter-finals knockout scheduled to be played Saturday. The top four teams from Zone One and Two will advance to the quarter-finals.
The Pelicans, coached by Oberon Pitterson-Nattie, easily crushed Cablepro, coached by Winston Nevers, 55-19. It was the ninth consecutive win for Pelicans, who completed their preliminary round of matches with maximum 27 points in Zone One.
Pelicans’ goal-shooter La Donna Lamonth led the scoring by netting 42 goals from 55 attempts with teammate Shaquina Francis adding 13 from 24 efforts, while for Cablepro, Reneish Craig got 16 from 25.
Meanwhile, Mico ‘A’ defeated the high-riding Police ‘A’ 50-28 in Zone One to move to 24 points from eight games with one game in hand. Police ‘A’ ended with 21 points from nine matches and are through to the quarter-finals.
For Mico ‘A’, Taniel Roberts netted 45 from 58 attempts, while for Police ‘A’ Neisha Howard scored 17 from 28.
Jamalco clinched their place in the quarter-finals with a fighting and narrow 41-39 win over GC Foster Strikers ‘A’. It was their seventh win from nine games and it leaves them jointly in second place with Police ‘A’ with 21 points. Goal difference will be used to determine second place.
Tracy Ann Francis scored 30 goals from 42 attempts and Marsha Murphy-Dawkins added 11 from 14, while for GC Foster ‘A’, Deneen Taylor scored 31 from 46 efforts.
Alpha ‘A’ cruised past Rivoli United ‘A’ 59-27. For Alpha ‘A’ Nathalee Grant netted 57 goals from 67 attempts, while for Rivoli ‘A’, Akelia Henry got 21 from 31 efforts.
Jetsetters defeated Tivoli 45-29 with Annette Miller getting 25 from 35, and Abbygale Larmond 20 from 27, while for Tivoli, Bavaria Bond got 33 from 38.
Jobs Lane United ‘A’ got the better of Alexander Strikers 40-37 in an exciting encounter. For the winners Trishanna Plummer got 28 goals from 29 attempts, while Renee McLarty added 18 from 24 and Shornet McDermott got 10 from 18 for Alexander ‘A’.
Mico ‘B’ rushed past GC Foster Strikers ‘B’ 42-21. For the winners, Chiquana Reid scored 31 from 39 and Suzette Case with 11 from 26.
