TUCKER, St James – Dr Dean Weatherly will be the third coach at Red Stripe Premier League club Montego Bay United starting Monday when they host Arnett Gardens in a third-round game at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.

Dr Weatherly, who was in charge of the club for most of the 2012-2013 season, after he was promoted from the assistant position following the departure of Neider dos Santos after just five games, will guide the club through their last four games of the regular season and the play-offs, it was confirmed earlier this week.

The position became vacant after Pastor Hugh Solomon resigned his position after seven games, to pursue what he told the Jamaica Observer were “personal and professional opportunities in the United States”, which would take up to about three months.

Solomon had taken over after Donovan Duckie, who started the season as head coach, left the club, citing personal reasons after the team had started the season well but then hit a skid.

Dr Weatherly, who had guided Violet Kickers to the Premier League title in the mid-1990s and to the Jamaica Football Federation All-Island Knockout competition, has been part of the Montego Bay United programme for several seasons and was assistant to dos Santos in their first season in the league in 2011-2012.

Orville Powell, president of the club, confirmed Dr Weatherly’s appointment, saying the coach “was familiar with our players; he has been around them for several years now and he knows our systems”.

After Monday’s game, Montego Bay United, who are in third place now and all but certain, barring a total collapse, to make it to the semi-finals, will then host August Town, and will finish the season with two away games, at defending champions Harbour View and then Cavalier.
