Caymanas lead the Arthur Ziadie InterClub Golf
The second leg of the Arthur Ziadie InterClub Championships teed off at the Sandals Golf & Country Club last Saturday with teams from five golf clubs showing up to test their skills.
A total of 80 golfers teed off in this leg of the Championship, which has seen the rebirth of enthusiasm and wide participation among the clubs and its members who show up and contribute to their clubs’ success.
The Caymanas team, which started off in second place in the first leg, is now out in front, scoring 701 from their top 10 players for a combined total of 1,403.
National representative Lindy Bartley, handicap (0), shot a blistering 64/64 with seven birdies and no bogeys on a day when all others struggled with the pace of the greens and swirling 30 mph winds. The golfing community is waiting to see how the man from the land of the “Crocodile” handles the Easter 36 in Runaway Bay April 19 & 20.
Tony Wong netted a solid 86/68 and Caymanas now lead the field by 40 strokes.
First-round leaders Constant Spring came prepared for battle with nearly 40 players. Clive Chambers and Gregory Mayne led from the front, but their best net scores of 72 only helped their team to a second-placed spot with a tally of 1,443. The Spring contingent is being closely stalked by the team from Montego Bay.
Although the Cinnamon Hill team had the smallest number of players, that did not deter the group from shooting impressive scores. Advantage General’s Murine Blake ended the day with 85/60, the best net score in the competition to date, and Donald Anderson (69) led the way. The Cinnamon Hill group lies third on 1,447.
Despite having strong players, including senior national representatives Dennis Atkinson and Hamar Dayes, the combined host team of Sandals Golf & Country Club and Runaway Bay Golf Club finished the day with 1,455.
O’Shae Haye (67) and Zandre Roye (68), former junior national representatives, produced the best numbers from this batch of golfers. Ervol Cunningham also had 68, while Fitzroy Hurst and Scott Jamieson both had 69.
The date and venue for the third event in the series will be announced shortly.
