TEAM Jamaica will face their Team Caribbean opponents two-one up in the fourth preliminary fight of the 2014 Wray & Nephew Contender Boxing series at the Chinese Benevolent Association Auditorium on Old Hope Road, tonight.

The hard-hitting Ramel ‘Sub Zero’ Lewis, who faces the more experienced Caribbean journeyman boxer Gardel ‘The Judge’ Roberts will doubtlessly be in a resolute mood to increase the lead for Team Jamaica in this the fourth fight of the first eight preliminary bouts of the 30- rounds contest.

The three-fight card begins at 7:30 pm with the first gong in the main welterweight division bout scheduled to be sounded at approximately 9:30 pm.

Lewis 26, who has a ring record of five wins against three losses and who has been a major drawcard since making his entry into the series three seasons ago, will come face-to-face with his 35-year-old opponent, who has a ring record of one win against nine losses.

Both boxers stand at 5′ 5″. Judging from win record and probably age, Lewis seems to have a distinct edge. Nonetheless, the 35-year-old Guyanese craftsman is no mug in the ring and from the level of his preparation will be able to make a good fight of it at this level.

Despite the poor win ring record of Roberts, let’s not forget that in an effort to produce a show of the highest quality featuring Caribbean and Jamaican boxers, the Jamaica Boxing Board of Control and the producers have sought to unearth 16 of the very best professional boxers available in the region in the welterweight class to be moulded into two equally matched groups – namely Team Jamaica and Team Caribbean.

They will fight for prize money amounting to nearly $3 million of which the winner is guaranteed a purse of $2 million. The runner-up will pocket $500,000, third place $250,000, and fourth place $200,000.
