Blackburn strike good enough for Cavalier
CAVALIER eked out a narrow but important 1-0 victory against bottom-placed August Town to move up two places to sixth in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) at Stadium East on Sunday.
Midfielder Claudious Blackburn hammered home a perfect free-kick from just on top of the 18-yard box, a minute before half-time to give the David Lalor-coached survivors a crucial three points in their bid for a semi-final spot in the RSPL. They are now on 36 points.
When the game spun around for the second half, it was August Town’s time to use the wind to their advantage, but they wasted it, as a free kick in the same general area from where Blackburn succeeded, August Town’s Creary muffed his chance, and now the team looks likely to join either Rivoli United or Portmore United, both on 32 points, in the lower league next season. They are on 24 points.
