ARNETT Gardens FC will look to consolidate their fourth-place spot in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) football competition when they host Humble Lion FC today at the Anthony Spaulding Complex.

Kick-off, in what promises to be a feisty encounter, is slated for 6:00 pm.

As teams jostle for the four top places to advance to the impending semi-final stage, Arnett Gardens, who drew 1-1 in a rescheduled fixture with title-holders Harbour View FC in midweek, have 39 points from 27 matches, four points ahead of fifth-positioned Tivoli Gardens FC.

Humble Lion, who have shown encouraging signs of late, ended 2-2 against RSPL leaders Waterhouse FC last weekend. Though in seventh place on 33 points, a win for Humble Lion, a team which headed the league in the early rounds, could reinvigorate dim semi-final hopes.

In the 3:30 pm start at the Wespow Park in St James, second-placed Montego Bay United, who have 45 points from 26 matches, welcome sixth-placed Sporting Central Academy (34 points).

Montego Bay United, the recent pacesetters, can at least regain a temporary lead atop the RSPL standing with a win, but Sporting Central should still be harbouring thoughts of a top-four place and are expected to provide a tough challenge.

For an enticing 4:00 pm clash, Boys’ Town FC, on 31 points from 26 games, make the short trip to Edward Seaga Sports Complex to battle Tivoli Gardens FC (35 points).

While Tivoli finished 2-2 with Harbour View in their last game a week ago, Boys’ Town were rampant in a 3-0 beating of Montego Bay United.

At the Stadium East playing field, in a scheduled 4:30 pm commencement, hosts Cavalier SC, in eighth place on 33 points, engage relegation-threatened August Town FC, who are in last place, some nine points behind on 24.

A humdinger is on the cards when two local powerhouses at opposite ends of the table, meet at the Harbour View Mini-Stadium in a 6:30 pm start.

The Harbour View unit, suffering from a dip in form since comfortably leading the standing mid-way through the season, host ninth-placed Portmore United.

Harbour View are third with 44 points from 26 outings, while former winners Portmore have 32 points and are uneasily perched near the relegation zone.

Harbour View will be without head coach Harold Thomas, who has parted ways with the club. Former player Andrew Hines has been tasked with the job of leading the defending champions at present.

In tomorrow’s live televised encounter, Waterhouse (46 points), the narrow leaders of the preliminary standing, face Rivoli United (31), who are in 11th place due to an inferior goal difference to Boys’ Town.

The two teams with the lowest number of points at the end of the preliminaries are to be demoted.
