Lilliput Rovers ambush Violet Kickers 1-0
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Promoted Lilliput Rovers surprised Zone B leaders Violet Kickers, beating them 1-0 in their return-round St James Football Association Sandals/ATL/Honda Senior League game at Jarrett Park on Friday evening.
Okeiffe Lewis’ first-half goal was enough for the struggling Lilliput Rovers to hand the former champions their first loss of the campaign and move into third place tied on 10 points with Salt Spring United and Seba FC.
The teams had tied in their first-round game played at Wyndham earlier in the year and despite not earning a win in their last four outings, Lilliput Rovers came up trumps on Friday for their second win of the season.
Despite the win Violet Kickers are still leaders with 16 points from nine games, four more than second-placed Little Miami, who have a game in hand.
Lilliput Rovers hold the tie breaker with a zero goal difference with Salt Spring United on a minus one and Seba FC with a minus three goal difference.
Salt Spring United scored a rare win, edging Revelation FC 2-1. Anthony Brown gave them the lead in the 47th minute, but Tremaine Dennis levelled for Revelations in the 71st minute only to see Phillip Clarke restore Salt Spring’s lead two minutes later.
In the other game played, Catherine Hall and Reggae Youths drew 0-0 in a Zone A game.
Fogo United lead Zone A with 17 points, followed by Reggae Youths’ 14, and Montego Bay United in third on 13 points. Melbourne FC, Seaview FC and Catherine Hall are all on nine points.
