Frazer bags shot put gold in record-breaking foray
EDWIN Allen’s Rochelle Frazer had a brilliant day on yesterday’s fifth and final day of the 2014 ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium as she broke the meet record four times on her way to the shot put gold medal in an astounding 13.70m.
Frazer, who was the silver medal winner in the discus earlier in the meet, started her conquest of the record when she threw 13.13m on her first effort erasing the 13.00m set last year by former Holmwood Technical’s Gleneve Grange.
Frazer then threw 12.95m and then fouled her third attempt before a second half that she will long remember, starting with 13.26m, then 13.31m, before the massive final effort.
Kiona Bradshaw of Vere Technical also broke the old record with her silver medal performance of 13.21m, while St Andrew Technical’s Ayesha Champagnie took the bronze with 12.93m.
Claudette Allen of Edwin Allen won the Class One long jump with 6.45m ahead of Holmwood Technical’s triple jump champion Tamara Moncrieffe (5.98m) and St Jago High’s Jehvania Whyte (5.86m).
Manchester High’s Annastacia Forrest won the Class Two high jump with a clearance of 1.75m, the same height cleared by second and third place finishers Shanae McKenzie also of Manchester High and Hydel’s Samara Spencer.
Annia Ashley of Edwin Allen won the Class Three long jump with a wind aided 5.62m (2.8m/s) followed by two Hydel high jumpers, Yanique Dayle (5.61 (4.9m/s) and high jumper winner Shian Salmon 5.58m, (3.1m/s).
