Titchfield, Belair, deCarteret cop ISSA/Securipro TT titles
THE rural finals of the ISSA/Securipro Table Tennis Competition were played at the G C Foster College recently, and at the end Titchfield retained both the boys’ Under-16 and girls’ Under-16 titles, while Belair also retained the boys’ Under-19 crown and deCarteret won the girls’ Under-19.
In the finals, Belair blanked Glenmuir 5-0 in the boys’ Under-19, deCarteret clipped Manchester 3-2 in the girls’ Under-19, Titchfield blanked Glenmuir 5-0 in the boys’ Under-16, and Titchfield beat Belair 3-1 in the girls’ Under-16.
Belair Under-19 boys have now won three times in the last five years, as they also won in 2010 and last year; while deCarteret
Under-19 girls are winning for the first time ever. Play in the Under-16 category was introduced by ISSA in 2008 and Titchfield boys have won the last three years, while Titchfield girls have won the last two years.
Third-place finishers were Titchfield in the boys’ Under-19, St Hilda’s in the girls’ Under-19, Manchester in the boys’ Under-16, and St Mary High in the girls’ Under-16.
Belair are coached by Patrick Clarke, deCarteret by Pawsey Lyn, Titchfield by Samuel Lamount, Glenmuir by Carlton Clarke, and Manchester by Peter Kavanaugh and Carl Daley, St Hilda’s by Richard Thomas, and St Mary High by Shevaar Smith.
In the boys’ Under-19 Belair and Glenmuir reached the final by topping their three-team groups. Belair drubbed both St Mary High and Manchester by identical 4-1 scores in Group One, while Glenmuir blanked Munro 5-0 and edged Titchfield 3-2 in Group Two. Manchester pipped St Mary High 3-2 and Titchfield blanked Munro 5-0, to place second in the groups.
In the girls’ Under-19 Manchester blanked both Dinthill and St Hilda’s by similar 3-0 scores to top Group One, and deCarteret turned back both Cross Keys and Titchfield by 3-1 scores to top Group Two, to qualify for the final. St Hilda’s pipped Dinthill 3-2 and Titchfield beat Cross Keys 3-1 for second places in the groups.
The two finalists in the boys’ Under-16 advanced to the final by winning both of their group matches by 5-0 score lines. Titchfield blanked both St Mary High and Manchester by 5-0 scores in Group One, and Glenmuir blanked Dintill and Munro by 5-0 scores in Group Two. Manchester turned back St Mary High 4-1 and Dinthill nipped Munro 3-2 for second places in the groups.
In the girls’ Under-16, Titchfield blanked both newcomers McGarth and Manchester by 3-0 scores for first place in Group One, and Belair stopped St Mary High 3-1 and blanked St Hilda’s 3-0 to place first in Group Two. Manchester edged McGarth 3-2 for second place in Group One and St Mary High clipped St Hilda’s 3-2 for second place in Group Two.
In individual results in the Belair/Glenmuir boys’ Under-19 final, Michael Chen crushed Youri Bennett 3-0, Alexander Chin trounced Trizon Grant 3-0, Samuel Ricketts outplayed Jevaughn Salmon 3-1, Timothy McLaren blew away Kevaughn Kerr 3-0 and Mathieu Duval overcame Jabari Glaves 3-1, for Belair’s 5-0 triumph.
In the girls’ Under-19 final between close neighbours deCarteret and Manchester, Monique Cain won two matches for deCarteret, overwhelming both Nerole Larmond and Natasha Wright by 3-0 scores. Her twin sister Anique Cain cruised past Larmond 3-0 to secure the third win for deCarteret as Wright turned back Anique Cain 3-1 to pull one back for Manchester.
In the Titchfield versus Glenmuir boys’ Under-16 final, Tyreek Thompson, Orlando Green and Marcel Holness scored easy 3-0 victories over Kimale Graham, Oneil Osbourne and Christopher Liao, respectively; Rajni Brown got by Chadille Jones 3-1 and Brian McGrowder outscored Warren Simpson 3-1, for Titchfield’s 5-0 win.
Brittany Murray won two matches for Titchfield in their girls’ Under-16 final against Belair. She overwhelmed both Devonni Dwyer and Jade Chin by 3-0 scores, as Sheryl Green eased past Michala Reid 3-0, for Titcfileld’s third victory. Chin outlasted Aliyah Patterson 3-2 for Belair’s consolation win.
