MoBay Under-21 move up in Senior League
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Montego Bay United Under-21 jumped three places off the bottom of Zone A in the St James Football Association Sandals/ ATL/Honda Senior League to third after a hard-fought 3-2 win over leaders Fogo United in the first game of a triple-header at Jarrett Park on Friday.
Montego Bay United Under-21 led 2-0 before Fogo clawed their way back to 2-2 before a goalkeeper mistake allowed Montego Bay United Under-21 to score their second win from eight games.
The other two games both ended in draws with Zone B leaders Violet Kickers and Little Miami sharing two second-half goals in a 1-1 draw, while two goals from Phillip Clarke gave Salt Spring a 2-2 draw with Lilliput Rovers.
Montego Bay United’s win took them to 10 points from eight games, behind Fogo United’s 14 and Reggae Youths 13 and ahead of Melbourne United and Catherine Hall on nine each. Santino Grennon in the 16th minute and Tahjay Kelly in the 24th pushed MBU Under-21 to an early 2-0 lead, but Kevin Leach pulled one back for Fogo United in the 36th minute
as they trailed 2-1 at half-time.
Amrick McFarlane then pulled Fogo level in the 55th minute, but Kavan Atkinson took full advantage of a hesistant Fogo United goalkeeper in the 72nd minute and headed it into the unprotected goal for the decisive score. In the second game, James Welds gave Violet Kickers the lead in the 46th minute when he beat the goal- keeper at his near left post with a well-placed shot.
Adeno Spence volleyed home in the 64th minute, however, as Little Miami stayed unbeaten in the return-round after a slow start in the first round and inched into third place on nine points on goal difference ahead of Revelation FC with a game in hand.
