Waulgrovians ‘A’, UWI Pelicans keep winning in SVL Major League Netball
WAULGROVIANS ‘A’ and University of the West Indies (UWI) Pelicans maintained their respective unbeaten run in the 2014 Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL)/Netball Jamaica (NJ) Major League competition played at the Leila Robinson Courts last Saturday.
It was the third straight win from as many starts for Waulgrovians ‘A’, while the Pelicans recorded their second victory from their two outings.
The Marvette Anderson-coached Waulgrovians, clad in purple and white, outscored Mico ‘B’ 39-31 as they came from a first quarter deficit to get the better of their opponents in the other three quarters. Waulgrovians ‘A’ trailed in the first quarter 8-13 before gaining a close 18-16 goal lead at half-time.
For Waulgrovians, former national captain Simone Forbes scored 19 goals from 27 attempts and Shana Carridice 11 from 19, while for Mico ‘B’ Suzette Case was perfect with 16 from 16 shooting.
Meanwhile, the Oberon Pitterson-Nattie-coached Pelicans defeated the C Lloyd Walker-Jetsetters ‘A’ 56-40 after taking a 27-22 goal lead at half-time. La Donna Lamonth netted 44 goals from 53 attempts. Annette Miller (21) got most goals for the losers.
The Winston Nevers-coached JAMALCO had to work very hard through the entire four quarters to get the better of a spirited challenge from the Roy Pryce-coached Molynes ‘A’ in an exciting 44-40 encounter.
JAMALCO’s Tracy-Ann Francis netted 42 goals from 52 attempts, while for Molynes ‘A’, Nicole Brown got 26 from 38.
Alexander Strikers ‘A’ ended the winning run of Alpha ‘A’ with a narrow 43-40 win. For Alexander ‘A’, Sedeen Cesrette got 32 goals from 39 attempts. For Alpha ‘A’, Nathalie Grant had 15 from 21 shooting.
GC Foster Strikers ‘A’ got past CablePro in a narrow 37-35 encounter. For the winners, Shauna Kaye Sewell had 22 from 34, while for the losers, Reneisha Craig was 19 from 26.
The Major League continues this afternoon with Police ‘A’ playing Rivoli United ‘A’ at the same venue, starting at 5:45.
