Last-gasp goals seal rare win for Sporting
SPORTING Central Academy outscored Tivoli Gardens FC 3-2 in yesterday’s match at the Juici Patties Park to bring both teams level on points in the Red Stripe Premier League table.
Defeat for Tivoli Gardens means they remain on 34 points and are further set-back in their quest for a semi-final berth at the end of the preliminaries. They, however, remain in fifth place, one point behind the fourth-placed Arnett Gardens FC.
Sporting lie in sixth place due to an inferior goal difference to Tivoli.
Until the 69th minute yesterday, the encounter was threatening to turn into one of those games that was highlighted by a pair of first-half penalties, but three goals in the last 21 minutes ensured that the contest was not short of excitement.
Francois Swaby sent Sporting ahead as early as the fourth minute from the penalty spot, but just 10 minutes later Kemar Flemmings equalised for the visiting Tivoli team in like manner – guiding his spot kick past Allien Whittaker in goal for the hosts.
It took a further 55 minutes for the game to turn on its head, and it was Keammar Daley who supplied the magic touch when he booted Tivoli into the lead. That was just the start of the drama, however.
With the full-time whistle approaching, the script was being prepared for a come-from-behind TG victory, but Swaby and company would have none of it.
The former Spalding High player popped up to score his 13th goal of the season and what was believed to have been the strike to salvage a point for Sporting. But the drama did not end there.
Cory Hylton emerged the hero with a goal deep into stoppage time to rescue a first win in six games for the hosts and extended their unbeaten streak to 10 games.
Their last defeat came against Cavalier SC at Stadium East in January.
