Jago, Immaculate, KC, Campion win urban TT titles
St Jago High and Immaculate Conception were respective Boys’ and Girls’ Under-19 winners after last week’s urban area finals of the ISSA/Securipro table tennis competition at the Jamaica College auditorium.
Kingston College won the Boys’ Under-16 title, while Campion College were champions for the Girls’ Under-16s.
St Jago, coached by Richard Davidson and Everald Tucker, turned back Kingston College 3-1 to win their first ever Boys’ Under-19 crown. In individual results, St Jago’s Alexander Henry crushed Andrew McGann 3-0; Kyle Davidson (the coach’s son) trounced Twani Price 3-0; and Kyle Gordon beat Sadiki Hinds 3-1. Dexter Mears blew away Nadre Cephas 3-0 to pull one back for Kingston College.
Immaculate, guided by coach Carl Lee, blanked Meadowbrook High 3-0 in Girls Under-19 as Chinelle Miller overpowered Sherie Phipps 3-0; Vanessa Moo Young cruised past Tiffany Blake 3-0 and Duvania Evans overcame Kiyana Gordon 3-1.
KC, under the tutelage of coach Colin McNeish, avenged the seniors’ defeat in clipping St Jago 3-2 in Boys’ Under-16 as Ricardo Hall defeated Justin Mullings 3-0; Dennis Daniels outplayed Bevan Antonio 3-1 and Kevin Davies outlasted Rohan Brown 3-2 in the fifth game of the match. Lorenzo Johnson and Matthew Morrison overwhelmed Anthony Burgess and Alex Gordon by respective 3-0 scores for St Jago’s two victories.
Campion, coached by Sandra Riettie, stopped Ardenne High 3-1 in the Girls’ Under-16 final. Janique Lee won two matches for Campion as she beat both Daneika Lawrence 3-0 and Kelice Sinclair 3-1, and Isabelle Chin outlasted Dana-Leah Whyte 3-1. Sinclair turned back Shaunte Smith 3-1 to pull one back for Ardenne.
In the third-place play-offs, St George’s pipped Campion 3-2 in Boys’ Under-19; Hillel clipped Norman Manley High 3-2 in Girls’ Under-19; Hillel nipped Campion 3-2 in Boys’ Under-16; and Wolmer’s Girls defeated Immaculate 3-1 in Under-16.
