Blair, Lindo put CSGC on top in interclub golf
On a day when the host club’s members turned out in their numbers, Red Stripe boss Cedric Blair and aspiring junior golfer Luke Lindo laid down a marker (net 66) which helped their club take the lead in the revamped InterClub Golf Championship for the Arthur Ziadie Cup.
The tournament kicked off on March 8 at the Constant Spring Golf Course with 68 entrants. The competing clubs include Caymanas, Cinnamon Hill, Constant Spring and Sandals/Runaway Bay, with the 10 best nett finishers contributing to the total team score and standings.
Diageo’s Cedric Blair, and young golfer Luke Lindo emerged at the top of Constant Spring’s list of 33 players, to put their team in front by six strokes on 695. Next in the running was Caymanas with a combined score of 701. Fred ‘Cricket’ Sutherland was the top scorer with a nett 65.
Cinnamon Hill, armed with 12 players, were third position with 727. Their top nett scorer was Murine Blake with 63. The combined team of Sandals and Runaway Bay Golf Clubs were fourth with Winston Johnson topping his team nett score with 65. Sandals-based Hamar Dayes came closest with 73.
The tournament format allows the teams to test their skills on a range of golf courses. With only six shots separating the Constant Spring team from their closest opponents, the members will be forced to bring their best game to the next round. The second leg of the tournament picks up on April 5 at Sandals Golf & Country Club.
