GIOVANNIE Johnson and Anushka McCalla were chosen male and female Saint International Fashion Face of the Caribbean 2014 respectively, at the Courtleigh Auditorium in New Kingston, St Andrew, on Saturday.

Both winners were selected from a field of 60 (40 women and 20 men) hoping to realise their dreams of walking runways of fashion centres around the world.

“It feels fabulous to have won and I’ll push forward with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” 17-year-old Johnson told the Jamaica Observer.

Johnson, a 6-ft 2-in student of Innswood High in St Catherine, was signed on spot to New York’s Fusion Management Model Agency.

McCalla, a student of Edwin Allen High, said she was primed to take on the international stardom heading her way.

“I did think I had a shot at winning because I felt I had the body and face they were looking for,” she said.

The 6-ft tall McCalla will mull over five contract options she received on the evening.

Deiwght Peters, CEO of Saint International Agency, was delighted with the immediate contract offers.

“This demonstrates clearly that when it comes to new faces in the Caribbean, we at Saint International are ahead of the pack. It sends a tremendous signal across the globe,” he said.

Present were agents from Next Models Worldwide, Elite Model Management Agency (North America), Women Management Worldwide, Fusion Management Model Agency (New York), Wilhelmina Models USA, One Management (New York), and Art & Commerce (one of America’s most powerful fashion production companies).

The evening also saw Simone Gordon, with her creation Campari Eclipse, taking home the Avant Garde Designer of the Year award and a cash prize of $50,000.

“I used a red-carpet theme blending red and black into the dress,” she said.

The Campari-inspired Avant Garde Designer of Year contest was very entertaining. With each reveal, the designers would consistently exceed the imagination of the audience. Andre Rose’s Glass of Campari was first runner-up while Avatar by Carlene ‘Nina’ Levy came in third.

Dancehall quartet TOK provided the musical selections.
