Sandals Whitehouse, Granville United clash in Western Confed Super League
GRANVILLE, St James — Sandals Whitehouse FC and Granville United will meet at the Granville Community Centre in what could be the most exciting game in today’s round of matches in the return-round of the Jamaica Football Federation/Captain’s Bakery and Grill/ Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League.
Third-placed Sandals Whitehouse, as well as mid-season finalists Tomorrow’s People and defending champions Wadadah FC are chasing the leaders Reno FC and Savannah SC.
Granville United are in sixth place.
Reno FC and Savannah SC are tied on 33 points, followed by Sandals Whitehouse with Tomorrow’s People and Wadadah FC on 25; Granville and Holland United are on 23, with Village United in eighth place on 19; Montego Bay Boys’ Club are next on 17, with Lucea FC on 13, Duanvale FC on 12, and Norwood Strikers last on eight, and looking doomed to relegation at the end of the season.
On Tuesday, Wadadah FC hammered Norwood Strikers 6-0, with Anthony Marks getting a second-half-double.
Damion Reid and Tyshan Hill gave Wadadah FC the lead at half-time, while Oshane Forbes and player/coach Daniel Ricketts also scored.
On Sunday, Sandals Whitehouse will be seeking their second win over the former champions this season after winning 2-1 at Crocs Land in the first round.
Granville United have only won twice at home this season, the last coming in January when they outgunned Reno FC 3-2, but will be going up against a Sandals team coming off a big 5-0 win over Duanvale.
Reno FC have won only once in their last three games and have seen their lead whittled down, but should be able to get past a Norwood team that has not won since December last year, and a team that has lost their last eight and 11 of their last 12.
Reno FC won the first game 2-0 and, despite playing at the UDC field in Montego Bay today, Norwood Strikers are not expected to put up much fight, having conceded 35 goals in their last 12 games.
Savannah SC, who could take over the lead next Thursday in a rescheduled game against Wadadah FC, will host Holland United at Frome and are expected to win their fourth straight game.
Tomorrow’s People have been and inconsistent after coming off a draw against Lucea FC on Sunday, must beat Montego Bay Boys’ Club to stay in contention when they meet at Jarrett Park.
The Hector Wright-coached Tomorrow’s People are the most prolific scoring team in the league with 34 goals in 16 games, but have yet to put together a consistent run of wins and will face a Boys’ Club team that has won two of their last three games.
Defending champions Wadadah FC will be seeking a second win over Duanvale this year and, after their 6-0 crushing of Norwood on Tuesday, will be looking to match the five goals they scored against Duanvale in their first-round win.
In the other game, Village United have lost back-to-back games to halt their progress and won’t have things easy away to Lucea who, despite their lowly status, have showed some fight of late.
