Alpha ‘A’ defeat Friendship 39-31
ALPHA ‘A’ defeated Friendship 39-31 to chalk up their third straight win as the 2014 Supreme Ventures Limited/Netball Jamaica Major League competition continued at the Leila Robinson Courts Thursday evening.
By virtue of winning, Alpha ‘A’ moved to the top of Group ‘B’ with nine points from three outings. Alpha have already beaten GC Foster Strikers ‘A’ and Molynes United ‘A’ in their first two matches.
Nathalie Grant scored 30 goals from 35 attempts for Alpha ‘A’, who were down 9-10 at the first quarter to level 18-18 at half-time. They took over the lead 28-27 at the third-quarter break before pulling away in the fourth quarter to win handsomely. Phyllis Thompson netted 22 goals from 29 efforts for Friendship.
Meanwhile, Blades United ‘A’ won their second game from three starts with a 50-19 whipping of Ebony Strikers ‘A’, who were losing their second game from two outings.
The winners had a 27-9 lead at half-time and outclassed their opponents in the next two quarters to come out with a big win. Flevet Thomas got 30 goals from 38 attempts and Shauna Jones got 24 from 31, while Shawnett Kerr got 14 from 26 tries.
GC Foster Strikers ‘A’ chalked up their first win from three matches with a close 43-40 win over Rivoli United ‘A’, who were suffering their second defeat from as many outings. The winners led 31-30 at half-time. Deneen Taylor scored 30 from 38 attempts for the winners, while Camisha Tulloch got 34 from 46 efforts.The Major League continues this afternoon with Molynes ‘A’ vs JAMALCO; GC Foster ‘A’ vs Friendship; Mico ‘A’ vs Jobs Lane United ‘A’; Alexander Strikers ‘A’ vs Alpha ‘A’. All games start at 5:00 pm.
In games scheduled for 6:30 pm, Cablepro take on GC Foster Strikers ‘B’; Police ‘A’ face Rivoli ‘A’; Tivoli go up against UTech Knights and Mico ‘B’ and Waulgrovians ‘A’ set a date.
