THE Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) aims to clamp down once again on possible violence at the 2014 ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Championships, which will run from March 25 to 29 at the National Stadium.

Speaking at Wednesday’s launch of Champs at the TVJ studios, Senior Superintendent of Police Michael James said “security will be tight at the Stadium for the Champs”.

He added that “licensed firearm holders should leave their weapons at home or somewhere safe”.

“Certain tools and instruments will be disallowed over the five days of competition which include knives, machetes, scissors, glass bottles, flagpoles over 12inches, large igloos and frozen liquids in plastic bottles,” James noted.

The senior cop said everyone entering the National Stadium over the period will be searched. “Everyone will be searched on entry to the National Stadium to obtain peace and safety for the five days of competition,” James said.

He said at times in the heat of celebration fans tend to get carried away, but vowed that the police would be well-positioned and prepared to suppress any incident with a hint of trouble.

“Every year of the championships held at the National Stadium, competitors go out in full force to bring home the title back to their school base (and) in all that excitement supporters tend to get violent. We intend to use all force possible to make this event violence-free,” James told the gathering.
