Wadadah look to progress at expense of Norwood
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Defending champions Wadadah FC could move into a semi-final position this afternoon if they can beat last-placed Norwood Strikers in a St James derby at the UDC field as the second round of the JFF Captain’s Bakery and Grill/Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League continues.
Wadadah FC will be going after a second win over Norwood Strikers this season after winning the first round game 4-2 in a shoot-out and would move into joint fourth place with another St James club, Tomorrow’s People.
The defending champions have slipped down the points table and are presently in seventh position on 22 points from 14 games, while Tomorrow’s People are on 25 points but have played two more games.
Norwood Strikers, meanwhile, are on eight points from their 15 games, having earned a single point from their last 11 games, conceding 29 goals in the process and have been in a free fall to the bottom of the standings and have become certain candidates for relegation.
Savannah SC have continued to pressure leaders Reno FC, joining them on 33 points with a game in hand after Sunday’s games. Savannah SC tagged Village United 2-0 at Elliston Wakeland Centre, while Reno FC were held 0-0 by Granville at Frome.
Omar Stewart and Fabian Samuels both scored their first goals of the season for Savannah SC as they beat Village United for the second time this campaign as the Trelawny club suffered their second straight 2-0 beating to stall their progress.
Stewart sent Savannah SC into the lead as early as the fourth minute, while Samuels added a second in the 18th minute.
Reno FC poor results against Granville continued, failing to score at home for the third time this season after losing to Granville 2-3 in the first round in what was their first loss.
The point earned saw Granville inch upwards to fifth on goal difference over Holland United who have played a game more. Both teams are on 23 points.
Sandals Whitehouse battered Duanvale 5-0 at Crocs Land to solidify their hold on third place with 28 points. The home team led 1-0 at half-time through Andre Vassell’s 21st-minute strike, but then overwhelmed the Trelawny club in the second half, scoring four more times in a 37-minute span in the second half.
Kemar Dawkins made it 2-0 in the 53rd minute, Derval Campbell then scored in the 64th before Oneil Blair scored in the 82nd and Kenardo Cooper followed in the 90th minute.
Tomorrow’s People dropped two valuable points when they were held 1-1 by Lucea FC, a team that has overwhelmed them 5-2 in the first round.
Junel McDonald gave Lucea FC the lead in the 16th minute, but Dalkeith McPherson grabbed a point for the visitors with his second goal of the season in the 57th minute.
On Saturday, Montego Bay Boys Club won for the second time in three games, blanking Holland United 2-0 at the UDC field.
Wayne Chambers in the 18th minute and Nicholas Brown in the 39th scored for Boys Club who are hoping to survive their first season in the Super League, but are still in the relegation zone and at least three points from safety presently.
