ISSA/Securipro urban TT finals on today
THE urban finals of this year’s Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/Securipro Table Tennis Competition will be staged today inside the Jamaica College Auditorium, starting at 8:30 am.
The competition is so named this year as Security Company, Securipro Limited, who has branches in Kingston and Montego Bay, has come on board as co-sponsors.
Semi-finalists in all four categories — Under-19 boys and girls and Under-16 boys and girls — were decided from home and away fixtures which were played from mid-January to the end of last month. They will matchup at the start today, with champions decided by the end of the day.
Defending champions are Kingston College for boys’ Under-19, Ardenne for girls’ Under-19, St Jago for boys’ Under-16, and Campion for girls’ Under-16. Ardenne Under-19 girls did not play this year, and the other three champions will be in action today to defend their titles.
Six teams, divided into two groups of three will contest the boys’ Under-19 semi-finals. They will play round robin in each group and group winners will face-off in the final. Runners-up in both groups will oppose each other for third-place trophies. Group One contains Kingston College, St George’s College and Wolmer’s, while Group Two consists of St Jago, Campion and Norman Manley.
Four teams are in the girls’ Under-19 semi-finals. Norman Manley will battle Meadowbrook in semi-final one, and Immaculate will take on Hillel in semi-final two, with the winners contesting the final, and the losers facing-off for third place.
The boys’ Under-16 category also has six teams in the semis and they will play in a similar format to the boys’ Under-19. Group One has St Jago, Gaynstead and Hillel, while Group Two contains KC, Campion and JC.
There are four teams in the girls’ Under-16 category and they will play in a similar format to the girls’ Under-19. Campion will play Immaculate in semi-final one, and Ardenne will oppose Wolmer’s in semi-final two.
KC are coached by Colin McNeish, St George’s by Dale Parham, Wolmer’s Boys by Rohan Schloss, St Jago by Richard Davidson and Everald Tucker, Campion by Sandra Riettie, Norman Manley by Kevin Hemmings, Meadowbrook, Matthew Dawson, Immaculate, Carl Lee, Hillel, Peter Daley, Gaynstead, Matthew Dawson, JC, Godfrey Gregory, Ardenne, Sandra Riettie, and Wolmer’s Girls by Clive Grossett.
