Cavalier, Waterhouse end 1-1
Cavalier held bubbly Waterhouse to an honourable 1-1 draw in their Red Stripe Premier League encounter at Stadium East on Sunday.
Cavalier could have taken all three points but for a ragged display in front of goal by midfielder Chevone Marsh, who on two separate occasions, fumbled away his team’s chances of victory.
Waterhouse had taken five wins and two draws from their previous seven games and either by design or complacency, seemingly approached the mid-table home team game without that inward hunger for victory. They remained in third spot on 39 points, four adrift of leader Montego Bay United on 42.
Cavalier with their sixth drawn game of the season, stayed in seventh spot on 30 points and are very much in the race to secure a top-four play-off spot.
Cavalier, keen on improving their present position in the RSPL standing, took advantage of some wayward passing and fumbling in the final third by the visitors and seized the initiative to take the lead from a good build up that finished up with the ever present Girvon Brown rolling the ball under a blinded goalkeeper Richard McCallum from close up in the 35th minute.
Three minutes later Waterhouse drew level through Gary McIntosh, who squeezed a swell-placed, stunning shot out of the reach of Jovelle Plunkett to the left of his goal.
While Marsh floundered miserably with colossal misses, Cavalier came perilously close to losing all three points in the final seconds of the game when a shot from Marvin Morgan struck their upright before Plunkett could react.
