Reno seek revenge against Granville United
FROME, Westmoreland — Mid-season champions and leaders Reno FC will today seek to avenge their first-round loss to Granville United when they meet at the Frome Sports grounds in a Jamaica Football Federation/Captain’s Bakery and Grill/Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League second-round game set to start at 3:30 pm.
Granville had snapped Reno’s unbeaten run when they met in St James and Reno will hope to extend an unbeaten record at Frome when they are the home team.
Meanwhile, second placed Savannah SC will play away to an improving Village United at Elliston Wakeland Centre, third placed Sandals Whitehouse host Duanvale United at Crocs Land, while Tomorrow’s People play away to Lucea FC in Lucea.
Reno FC, who regained the lead in the points table after a 2-1 win over Montego Bay Boys’ Club on Tuesday afternoon, have been challenged by Savannah SC, who are two points back with a game in hand.
Despite their inconsistencies, Granville United have always risen to the occasion against the top teams and could make things difficult for Reno FC today, and their first-round 3-2 win will give them hope.
Granville are not as potent away from St James, however, and coupled with Reno’s record as the home base at Frome, the odds will favour the Westmoreland club.
Savannah SC have been on a good run, winning their three second-round games played so far, while conceding just once in the process and will fancy themselves able to beat Village United for the second-straight time this season.
Last Sunday’s loss to Wadadah FC aside, Village United have been playing well and have moved off the foot of the tables and into relative safety, five points away from the relegation zone.
They will be without Nicholas Falconer, who was sent off against Wadadah FC last week, but will hope Aldaine Grant and Devron Clarke can get back to their scoring ways.
Sandals Whitehouse will start favourites against Duanvale, who they had beaten 1-0 in the first-round and are 13 points and eight places better going into the round today.
Sandals Whitehouse are coming off a loss to Tomorrow’s People and will be desperate to get back to winning ways and ahead of Tomorrow’s People, who are a point behind and should beat Lucea.
