He may be struggling for form in the Premier League, but Mesut Ozil showed his eye for a killer pass during Germany’s friendly victory over Chile.

The Arsenal playmaker, surrounded by three Chilean defenders, coolly turned in the penalty area before rolling the ball to Mario Gotze to grab the only goal in Stuttgart.

The Bayern Munich midfielder made no mistake from 12 yards out, stroking the ball into the top corner with just 16 minutes gone.

And despite coming out on top, Germany failed to impress. Gotze’s strike came against the run of play in the Ozil’s slippery work in the area.

Eduardo Vargas came closest for Chile when he struck the crossbar in the second half.

Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal, who had a spell with Bayer Leverkusen, should have equalised in the first as the dominant visitors failed to take advantage on a stuttering performance from the home side.

Vidal twice went close again, missing the best chance when he failed to beat Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer with a weak shot from inside the penalty area.

Germany coach Joachim Low was unable to hide his frustration, even before his side drew whistles from fans at the end.

Germany, who played in a new red and black kit on Wednesday, have been drawn to face Ghana, United States and Portugal in Group G at the World Cup in Brazil in June.

Chile are in Group B with champions Spain, Netherlands and Australia.
