MONTEGO BAY, St James — Some lucky players will get the chance to trade strokes with professional tennis players Dustin Brown over two days at the Sea Gardens Beach Resort and Tennis Club in Montego Bay on the weekend.

Brown who is ranked a career high 89th on the ATP men’s single tour will be in the island for a short break between tournaments and will be joined by former Jamaican junior representative David Russell at the event that is being put on by tennis professional Maureen Rankine.

The event Rankine told the Jamaica Observer West is another initiative she hopes will reignite the sport in Montego Bay where Brown honed his craft before going on to become professional in 2002, then switched to play for Germany.

The plan, she said, is for a series of events that will be organised throughout the year that she hopes will help to attract new interest in the sport year- round.

“The clinics will be held between 2:00pm and 5:00pm on Saturday and 10:00am and 2:00pm on Sunday, and patrons will be able to “challenge Dustin and David to some fun doubles,” Rankine said.

A number of local high school students- boys and girls- have been invited to participate, as well as several children from the Glendevon area, where Rankine gives free lessons on Saturday mornings.
