Brains On Track – Sashane Hanson
When did you start track and field?
I started track and field five years ago while in seventh grade.
How did you get involved in track and field?
I used to play netball and (Herbert Morrison coach) Mr Claude Grant saw my ability to jump and invited me to join the track team. I used to love netball, but I don’t play it anymore.
Who are your local and international track and field idols?
Locally, I like (sprinter) Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, and internationally I like (Croatian high jumper) Blanka Vlasic.
How do you rate your school’s chances in this year’s Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships?
I think we should be around the top 10 or somewhere around there.
Which school do you fear the most and why?
I think Hydel will win Champs this year, they have been doing well so far and could surprise.
How important is it for a student/athlete to have a solid education?
Well it is very important as if you don’t have a solid education you can’t get into a good college. It is important to get a good education to set the stage for more success after sports.
What are your educational achievements to date?
I have 11 subjects at the CSEC level, eight twos and three threes.
What is your ultimate life ambition?
I am looking towards going into medicine and becoming a general practitioner, but I also have hopes of representing Jamaica at the international level as well.
Who/what has had the biggest impact on your life thus far?
My father Hurdley, he supports me in everything I do, no matter what, he is always there for me.
