Bryan says healing from injury
The stars are lining up for Wolmer’s Boys’ Christoffe Bryan to reach new heights by the time the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Championships get going in about a month’s time.
After just a week’s training due to being sidelined the previous two weeks, Bryan equalled his personal best of 2.20m to win the men’s high jump open at the 38th staging of the Gibson Relays at the National Stadium yesterday.
This was the first time he had cleared the height since he first cleared it two years ago at the 2012 Milo Western Relays at the Montego Bay Sports Complex, and he admitted that he was “excited” afterwards.
“This is pleasing,” Bryan told members of the media after he beat Darryl Garwood and Clayton Brown, both of whom cleared 2.10m. He then spoke about his battles with injuries.
“I am nursing some injuries,” which he later revealed to be a “strained hamstring”. He added, “I am healing quickly and should be back to full fitness soon.”
The IAAF World Youth Championships bronze medallist said he only returned to training the previous week, but after clearing between 2.06m and 2.11m, said he knew he was able to attempt his personal best yesterday.
The normally cool competitor admitted being “nervous” as he was about to attempt the height, but that emotion quickly turned to “excitement” with a “clean jump”.
