Tomlin leads JC to victory
ROMARIO Tomlin’s smooth all-round performance led Jamaica College into the quarter-finals of the Jamaica International Insurance Company (JIIC), Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Knockout competition after a 17-run victory over Norman Manley yesterday.
Batting first at home, Jamaica College, with some fine display of batting, accumulated 226-2 from 40 overs, with Tomlin leading the way with a well-played 96, supported by captain Akim Fraser with 78 not out. In reply Norman Manley were skittled out for 209, with Stephan Douglas, 42, and Deandre Lee, 38, bringing the fight for the visiting team.
Romario Tomlin returned to scalp three for 34, and Gaysi Falconer supported him with three for 37.
Last year’s runner-up St Jago High also advanced to the quater-finals after a tense one-wicket victory over Excelsior High.
Batting first, Excelsior High were bundled out for a meagre 74 runs, which saw Raewin Senior (18) and Okachie Brown (10), the only batsmen getting into double figures. Dushane Carthy led the bowling for St Jago, bagging four for 24, with Mark Blake supporting with three for 12.
St Jago, in reply, made hard work of the total as they laboured to 75-9. Orandie Pearson led the assault with the ball for Excelsior as he captured three for 16, with Orland Rowe supporting with three for 19.
Eltham High made light work of their opponents when they steamrolled St George’s College by 165 runs.
Eltham, taking first knock, piled up 242-8 from their allotted overs, which saw Kevaughn Richards topscoring with 82, followed by Ramone Francis with 60. Romario Buddhu took two for nine, and Ricardo Verdie, one for 22.
In reply, St George’s could only manage 77. Simon Lee (19) and Andrew Thomas (16) were the only batsmen to offer any resistance. Jevel Innis, three for five, and Jerome Barton, two for 32, ensured that Eltham advanced to the next round.
