MBU, Wadadah, Granville advance to quarters
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Defending champions Montego Bay United along with favoured teams Wadadah FC and Granville all advanced to the quarter-finals of the St James Football Association Captain’s Bakery and Grill Knock-out with second round wins in a triple header at Jarrett Park last Friday afternoon.
National Premier League team Montego Bay United beat St James FA Sandals/ATL/Honda Senior League team Violet Kickers 2-0 with two first half goals from Leon Irving, who scored in the 14th and 24th minutes.
Wadadah FC and Granville, who are both Western Confederation Super League campaigners, beat Senior League clubs Revelation FC and Melbourne United, respectively.
Anthony Marks scored twice as Wadadah waltzed past Revelation FC 4-1 and Granville United beat Melbourne 3-0.
Despite the one-sided nature of the game Wadadah scored all four goals in the second half with Tyshan Hill opening the scoring in the 48th minute before Marks scored in the 50th and 65th minutes, and Oshane Forbes made it 4-0 in the 71st.
Neico Lawrence scored from the penalty spot for Revelation FC in the 90th minute.
In the final game, Oniel Pringle in the 20th, Odean Snow in the 28th, and Orane Gaynor in the 46th got on the scoresheet for Granville as they progressed to the last eight.
The second round ends tomorrow with three games, all at Jarrett Park. Montego Bay Boys’ Club meet Catherine Hall, Tomorrow’s People and Paradise FC meet in the second game before Little Miami and Lilliput meet in the third game.
