Second round of Western Confed Super League kicks off today
FROME, Westmoreland — The second round of the Jamaica Football Federation Captain’s Bakery and Grill/Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League will get underway today with three games following last weekend’s mid-season final.
Former champions Savannah SC could take over the lead when they take on Montego Bay Boys Club at Frome; Village United face Holland United in a Trelawny derby at Elliston Wakeland Centre, while Lucea FC and Duanvale FC meet at Rusea’s High.
Savannah SC, who were just edged out of the mid-season final by Tomorrow’s People, are on 21 points and a win today against the struggling Boys’ Club would see them take the lead ahead of Reno FC, who play tomorrow.
The first-round game between Savannah SC and Montego Bay Boys’ Club had ended in a 1-1 draw, but the teams have had different results since. Savannah SC are still the only unbeaten team in the competition and one of the top contenders, while Boys’ Club have not won since the start of 2014, going seven games without a win.
Holland United will be hoping the replicate their start to the first round when they were unbeaten in their first seven games and beat Village United in their first meeting.
Village have added to their roster in the transfer window and have acquired the services of Fitzroy ‘Johnny’ Reid as coach and will be better than they were at the start of the season.
Lucea FC and Duanvale have both struggled all season and are in the bottom three. They drew their first game 1-1.
Meanwhile, mid-season champions Reno FC will face Tomorrow’s People at Jarrett Park tomorrow, in a repeat of the mid-season final that they won 3-0.
Reno FC have outscored Tomorrow’s People 5-0 in two meetings so far this season and the St James club will be without central defender Damion Nelson, who was sent off in last Sunday’s game.
Granville United will be seeking their second win over Norwood Strikers when they meet at the UDC field.
