Marion Bartoli to host tennis clinic at Tryall Club
Former French number one professional tennis player and 2013 Wimbledon championship singles winner Marion Bartoli will be conducting a tennis clinic at the Tryall Club today.
Tryall is once again partnering with Rogers Cup tournament director Karl Hale, a former Jamaica Davis Cup player, on this initiative, which is a natural progression as late last year Hale escorted champions Serena and Venus Williams to Tryall Club.
Tryall is primarily known as a golf and villa resort, but it is also highly respected and well-recognised as a tennis destination.
The tennis clinic will last an hour-and-a-half at a cost of US$75. Proceeds will support the Tryall Sports Summer Camp. The Tryall Sports Summer Camp not only funds summer activities, but also provides support to children in the parish by providing grants to schools for transportation to tournaments, equipment and travel grants to individual players. Additionally, it funds the installation of nets and posts, as well as repairs to tennis courts and generally supports the upkeep of the tennis programmes and tournaments.
Richard Ferdinand, director of tennis at the Tryall Club and conceptualiser of Tryall’s annual summer camp, is thrilled about Bartoli’s impending visit to the Tryall Club.
“It is exciting to have a player of such a high calibre playing here at Tryall, especially as this comes on the heels of Venus and Serena’s visit last year,” he said. He also expressed great pleasure at Bartoli’s generous offer to assist the Tryall Sports Summer Camp as the programmes help many young children in Hanover and neighbouring parishes.
During her professional career, Bartoli defeated three world number one players — Justine Henin-Hardenne, Jelena Jankovic and Victoria Azarenka. She has also recorded wins over other top players such as Venus and Serena Williams, Ana Ivanovic, Lindsay Davenport, Caroline Wozniacki and Kim Clijsters.
Bartoli also won several women’s tennis association singles titles and three doubles titles during her career.
