It’s true, Liar Liar one to watch
A selected group of Classic-pointing native-bred fillies will go post ward in the Hot Line Stakes at Caymanas Park today.
Classified in the Restricted Allowance II category for three-year-old native-bred fillies (NW2), the Hot Lines Stakes scamper has attracted a decent-looking field of eight going 1,200 metres for a purse of $900,000.
The Hot Line is also the highlighter of the 10-race card and is slotted in at the penultimate juncture of the local programme with a post time for the call set at approximately 4:40 pm with first post at 12:20 pm.
The best in the class among aspiring Classic fillies are yet to make their three-year-old debuts, but expectations are high among this group to warrant serious consideration that other worthy aspirants may emerge.
The fillies Guineas that will open the Classic season in another seven or so weeks will be contested over a distance of 1,600 metres. Today’s distance, going 400 metres less, is a trot up to provide worthwhile competitive preparation for those pretenders such as Sparkling Michaela, Dane Nelson up, Queen Paula with Winston Griffiths in the saddle along with the neglected Liar Liar. They have already showed promise that they are capable of getting the Guineas Classic distance in the right company.
All three have also demonstrated that they possess good speed, early and late, being basically bred for sprinting and can prove that any among this group could go on to better things by winning the Hot Line takes.
In addition to the aforementioned, the likes of River Mumma, under Richard Mitchell, who was an easy winner on debut going 1,000 metres straight, Miss Juanita Dick Cardenas in the irons and Woman Is Boss, partnered by Aaron Chatrie, have also shown the capacity to be on the premises at the business end of the run.
However, the preferred choice is the neglected Liar Liar.
Liar Liar, a chestnut filly by Film Director out of Hello Baby (Schism) bred by Lorenzo Robinson, owned by Prometheus Group and trained by Rudolph Hardial, was a surprise finisher in third spot among the very best two-year-olds of 2013 in the SVL Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes after going off at neglected odds of 79-1.
The eventual winner of the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes Princess Popstar is the current Horse-of-the-Year. None of her current rivals possesses a comparable performance. Yet, it is true that horses in the field could come on by leaps and bounds to win this sprint. But let us not forget that of the present lot Liar Liar has the best time sprinting: 1:07.3 going 1100 metres.
