Munro, Ardenne win in All-Island basketball play-offs
MUNRO College and Ardenne High came out victors in the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/KFC All-Island basketball play-offs at the National Stadium courts on Monday.
Wolmer’s Boys’ lost narrowly to Munro College 57-59 in their Under-19 encounter, while in the Under-16 category Ardenne High handed Decarteret College an 89-20 pounding.
Wolmer’s opened well against Munro but failed to hold on to the lead as the latter responded soon after and stepped away comfortably into a 19-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Wolmer’s fought back in a see-saw battle and with seconds left on the clock in the final period, the game was tied at 57 points.
The game decider came when a foul was called against Wolmer’s and Munro converted from the free-throw line.
Munro’s Jahvier Charlton top-scored with 25 points, while Ahkeem Forbes contributed 19.
In the Under-16 game, Ardenne High ended the first quarter ahead 14-9, taking total control in the second, third and fourth quarters
Ardenne’s D’andre Forbes led the way with 32 points and 21 rebounds. He received help from Matthew Lee and Everald Clarke, who both hit 14 points.
In other matches played on the day in the Under-16 category, Glenmuir High defeated Spot Valley High 49-40, and Jamaica College beat Brimmervale High 69-15.
In the Under-19 category, Belair High edged William Knibb High 51-48, and Campion College hammered Dinthill Technical 84-19.
The top two teams from each zone will advance to the semi-finals of the All-Island play-offs.
