Holy Trinity benefits from Western Sports $1.5m deal with JCA
HOLY Trinity High School has been included in the $1.5m sponsorship of cricket gear that Western Sports donated to the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA), it was announced at a press conference at Sabina Park yesterday.
Carl Chang, managing director of Western Sports, said his desire is to forge a long-standing partnership with the JCA.
“I am a regular visitor to Sabina Park and what I see the JCA doing to develop the sport of cricket, we want to be the supplier of that,” he said.
He added: “On behalf of Western Sports I am pleased to announce our partnership with the JCA and hope that these gear will have some practical uses and will improve on the game.”
President of the JCA Wilford ‘Billy’ Heaven said that Western Sports is helping in the development of cricket, and the inclusion of Holy Trinity High School is one such way.
“This is part of our thrust… it is very significant to us that Western Sports has come on board to contribute to the JCA, this shows the effort we put in to secure partnerships for the JCA. Holy Trinity High School has made the news time and time again in some bad experiences and so we have decided to include them in our partnership.
“We want to use cricket as a medium to influence discipline and management at the school. The JCA will over the next month provide the school with a pitch for them to have at the school, [and] going forward it only can get better. I thank Western Sports for making this possible and now we can focus on future plans with Western Sports,” Heaven said.
Margaret Brissett-Bolt, principal of Holy Trinity High School, said she was very happy as the partnership will place Holy Trinity High School on the sports map.
“What this means to us… words can’t explain the feeling. You know how long we are trying to get sponsorship for the school, we have some great, talented students here and we thank the JCA for coming on board as they promised and they lived up to their commitment.
“This shows that people care, and they care a lot, so we are looking forward to this partnership and hope that this will help in improving the behaviour of our students,” the excited Brissett-Bolt told the Jamaica Observer.
Others benefiting from the sponsorship are GC Foster College, St Catherine CC, Portmore cricket team, JDF cricket team, Kensington CC, Lucas CC, Melbourne CC, Kingston CC, St Catherine CA, Westmoreland CA, Hanover CA, Boys’ Town, St Ann CA, St Mary CA, Trelawny CA and Portland CA.
