Naâman finding his roots
FRENCH singjay Naâman is confident of adding his name to the list of reggae’s up-and-coming brightest stars.
Released in Europe last month, his debut set — Deep Rockers Back A Yard!, — will be available locally this week.
The 16-track album, recorded at Harry J Studios in Kingston the effort and produced by Sam Clayton and Stephen Stewart, is a collaboration between French outfit Soul Beats and Warieka Music.
“Though I haven’t been to every country, Jamaica so far is the perfect place for music. I really feel special when I come here and it helped me in putting my truth and my authentic vibes out to the public through this record. If I don’t live it, I don’t sing it,” Naâman said.
According to Stewart, the artiste’s growth is critical for the label.
“It is all about returning to a holistic approach of developing artistes of international quality wherever they hail form, and working intently with them to put out and promote top-notch recordings of substance,” he said.
Tracks include The House Of Love, Rebel For Life featuring Cutty Ranks, and the lilting acoustic song One Day.
Hailing from the coast of Dieppe in France, Naâman (given name Martin Mussard) said he is a fan of reggae legend Bob Marley as well as Capleton, Sizzla, and Lutan Fyah.
“I like many different sounds but that vibe and energy of the roots sound, it just come at me different and I knew right away is that I really wanted to do for myself,” he said.
Deep Rockers Back A Yard! is a follow up to his Feel Da Power mixtape which was released last year. It received a favourable response.
“It’s the roots sound that really grab hold of me from the beginning,” he added.
