Lion edge H’View, August Town hold Sporting
TOLL GATE, Clarendon — Narado Brown scored in first-half stoppage time to hand Humble Lion a 1-0 victory over leaders Harbour View in yesterday’s Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) game at the Effortville Community Centre in Clarendon.
Brown had only entered the field about three minutes earlier as a substitute, but showed great composure in booting home the winner past the Harbour View goalkeeper.
The victory means Humble Lion improved their tally to 24, which re-ignited their challenge for a semi-final spot.
They now sit three points behind fourth-place Arnett Gardens, who host Montego Bay United in Monday night’s lone encounter at the Tony Spalding Complex.
Harbour View have now gone three games without a win in the RSPL, but will remain at least two points clear at the top of the table (on 37 points) heading into their mid-week fixture.
Meanwhile, at Juici Patties Park, Sporting Central played out their third successive goalless draw after being held by August Town.
While both teams traded periods of dominance, the visiting August Town team will leave south west Clarendon feeling hard done.
They were the better team in a scrappy first half and missed three clear goalscoring chances in the contest.
Sporting improved gradually and had August Town on the defensive for much of the second half, but lacked the cutting edge needed to transform their dominance into goals.
They are now on 23 points, while August Town stayed at the bottom of the table on 19.
