$100,000 LIME splash for Y-Speedos Meet
Continuing its support for sports in Jamaica, telecommunications company LIME has committed $100,000 towards this year’s staging of the ‘Y’ Speedos Karl Dalhouse International Memorial Swim Meet for the third year in a row.
The 19th staging of the three-day meet was scheduled to kick off yesterday at the National Stadium Pool and will conclude tomorrow. More than 250 swimmers from local clubs will participate in individual events and relays with the hope of copping the overall team title from 2013 champions the ‘Y’ Speedos.
“Swimming is the next big thing for Jamaica and LIME is proud to continue our support for yet another promising set of Jamaican athletes,” said Stephen Miller, sponsorship manager, LIME Jamaica. “We are always eager to support the development of young talents in any way we can and very soon we expect to see even greater returns in the international swimming pool for Jamaica,” he added.
“LIME’s support over the years has been an integral part of our well-being as far as developing and promoting the meet.” said Brian Morris, President of ‘Y’ Speedos
From Y Speedos Club, explosive action is expected from Sean Douglas Gooden, a promising 13-year-old, while 16-year-old Leanne McMaster is expected to dominate for the girls.
Others pitched to impress include Kevon Campbell of Swimaz Club, Zavier Phillips from Marlins, and Joseph Black of Tornados Swim Club.
Andarra Sinclair, Ivana Chang and Anastasia Chin are also among the top female swimmers down to compete.
The meet is one of the opening qualifiers for the annual CARIFTA Games scheduled for later this year.
