MONTEGO BAY, St James — Tomorrow’s People of St James will meet Westmoreland’s Reno FC in Sunday’s mid-season final of the JFF/Captain’s Bakery and Grill/Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League after being awarded points from their game against Holland United on Sunday.

Holland United turned up for the game at Jarrett Park without their playing gear, and despite a rush to get it, by the time the gear was taken to the venue at 3:40 pm, the officials had already left the venue as the 15-minute grace period for the 3:00 pm start had already expired.

Tomorrow’s People, last season’s mid-season champions, finished the first round of games with 21 points, same as Savannah SC, but with a superior goal-difference to join early qualifiers Reno FC, who topped the tables with 23 points.

The St James club was one of three teams that entered the round with a chance of making it to the final, but had to win and hoped Savannah SC or Sandals White House failed to do so.

As fortune would have it, Savannah SC and Sandals Whitehouse obligated by playing out a 0-0 draw at Crocs Land, the same score between Reno FC and defending champions Wadadah FC at Frome.

Meanwhile, Granville United moved into fifth place, edging Lucea FC 1-0 in Lucea, while Trelawny clubs Village United and Duanvale FC extended the miseries of St James clubs Montego Bay Boys Club and Norwood Strikers, respectively.

Demar Dohman, who helped Wadadah FC win the title last year with a number of timely goals and who started the current season with them, scored his first goal for Granville United after moving in the January transfer window, snapping the Hanover club’s two-game win streak.

The win was Granville’s fourth of the season and saw them improve to 17 points, two behind fourth-placed Sandals Whitehouse.

At the UDC Field in Montego Bay, Devron Clarke scored in the 35th minute and Aldaine Grant in the 55th to lead Village to a 2-1 win over Boys Club who got a consolation goal from Andrew Brown in the 68th minute, but could not prevent them from extending their winless run in the Super League to seven straight.

Norwood Strikers’ winless run is also at seven since they flogged Village 5-0 after being beaten 3-0 by Duanvale, who got goals from Kevon Bartley in the second minute and were down 2-0 after just four minutes when they conceded an own goal.

Rajiv Chung scored in the 35th minute for Duanvale, who moved to seven points but are still at the bottom of the points tables but only four away from safety.
