Serge Island to invest big in youth track & field
SEPROD subsidiary, Serge Island Dairies, Jamaica’s largest milk producer, will next week Wednesday at the National Stadium launch a youth track & field and nutritional programme that will see in excess of $20 million being invested by the entity into the popular inter-primary and inter-prep school track and field championships this year.
Serge Island Milk, under which the programme will be anchored, will also take on board a leading Jamaican sports personality as its brand ambassador.
Seprod Chairman Paul Scott said that the investment, “was critical at this time given the serious challenges faced in sustaining these very important sports programmes that are key to health-focused youth development. Beyond that, it is important that we inform the wider populace on the need for a balanced nutrition utilising high-quality local milk at affordable prices. It is a win, win”.
Matthew Samuda, the Marketing Manager for Seprod’s exclusive distributor, Facey Commodity, highlighted that, “Serge Island is intent on promoting youth sports development, a healthy nutrition and buying Jamaican products. Therefore, taking on a prominent and young Jamaican athlete will only augment for the better what it is we are pushing and reinforces our commitment to building up Jamaica. Everyone will be excited at whom we got on board.”
Serge Island Milk, a household brand, has a long affinity with Jamaican athletes, with one of its last major promotional programmes taking on board famed cricketer and West Indies team captain James Clive ‘Jimmy’ Adams.
