National TT trials on at Excelsior High today
NATIONAL men’s table tennis champion Kane Watson and women’s queen Yvonne Foster will headline the 12-man, 11-woman trial at the Excelsior Auditorium beginning at 9:00 am today.
The players are competing for places on Jamaica’s team to the World Championships and Commonwealth Games.
The Worlds begin at the end of April, while the Commonwealth Games will be in July. A squad of four men and four women will be selected after the trial to undergo final preparation under national coach Stephen Grant.
Jamaica played in the singles of the World Championships last year and last took part in the Commonwealth Games some four years ago.
The top 12 men invited by the Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA) to participate in the trials are Watson, Joseph Dibbs, Simon Tomlinson, Peter Moo-Young, Christopher Marsh, Dale Parham, Phillip Drummond, Alphanso Morris, Rudolph Sinclair, Glen-Ross McDonald, Jordan Hazel and Don Walker-Petinaud, while Foster, Kadian Carney, Ashli Alexander, Deidra Lewis, Traci-Ann Dattadeen, Janique Lee, Petrina Bogle, Alecia Bennett, Brittany Murray, Shanique Clear and Andrea Wadsworth will represent the women invited.
