Reno move forward to semis in Jackie Bell KO
FROME, Westmoreland — Reno FC inched closer to a place in the mid-season finals of the Jamaica Football Federation’s Captain’s Bakery and Grill/Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League after handing Holland United their second straight loss, beating them 3-1 on Wednesday at the Frome Sports Complex.
The win, Reno FC’s seventh, saw them move to 22 points at the top of the tables with 22 points while Sandals White House leap-frogged defending champions Wadadah FC into second place after blanking Village 3-0 at Crocs Land.
Wadadah FC were surprised 2-0 by Granville United at the UDC field in Montego Bay and dropped to fifth place as they were also passed by Tomorrow’s People and Savannah SC who beat Norwood Strikers and Duanvale respectively, both moving to 17 points, two more than Wadadah FC.
With two rounds of matches to go before the mid-season game, Reno FC could secure their place with a win over Savannah SC on Sunday.
On Wednesday, after playing 64 minutes without a goal, the game exploded for four in the final 25 minutes.
Junior Neil sent Reno FC into the lead in the 65th minute, while goals from Craig Foster in the 77th and Denmark Gillings in the 88th gave them a 3-0 lead.
Roshane Reid who switched clubs from Norwood Strikers scored his first goal for Holland in the 90th minute and his eighth overall as the Trelawny club lost back-to- back games and slipped further behind in the race for a place in the mid-season final.
Sandals White House continued their terrific run winning their fifth straight game after losing three of their first four games, blanking Village United 3-0 on Wednesday.
Andre Vassell in the 15th minute and Damion Wynter in the 45th minute gave the home team a 2-0 lead at half-time before Dane Spence scored the third in the 53rd minute as Village United has conceded seven goals in their last two games.
Tomorrow’s People continued their high scoring ways with a 4-0 whipping of a badly slumping Norwood Strikers at Jarrett Park, beating them a third straight time for a 10-0 aggregate.
Curtis Palmer who scored his first goal for the team in Sunday’s 4-1 come-from- behind win over Village United, added two more on Wednesday as Tomorrow’s People scored three goals in a 12-minutes span.
Nicholas Stewart gave Tomorrow’s People the lead in the 12th minute but they had to wait until the 73rd minute when Palmer added a second, and six minutes later Donville Cornwall scored his league- leading ninth goal.
Palmer rounded off the scoring in the 85th minute as they have scored 25 so far, two more than Reno FC with Holland United a distant third on 15.
Savannah SC dragged themselves back into contention with a 2-1 win over Duanvale with goals from Ron Daley in the 18th minute and Orlando Reid in the 33rd minute as Rajiv Chung scored Duanvale’s goal in the 90th minute.
At the UDC field in Montego Bay, Oneil Pringle set up both goals from set pieces as Granville United stunned Wadadah FC 2-0 snapping their three-game winning run.
Cion Peterkin glanced home a corner from Pringle in the 59th minute and in the 74th overlapping Huwayne Blake slotted home a free kick that was hit low and hard across the Wadadah area and out to the unmarked Granville player who made no mistake.
Pringle was lucky to finish the game as he could have been sent off in the 65th minute after lashing out at Wadadah’s Demar Dohman but escaped with only a yellow card.
Lucea FC got their first win, extending Montego Bay Boys’ Club’s winless run to five games with a 2-0 win at the Colin Miller Sports Complex in Lucea.
Dwayne Smith opened the scoring goal in the 62nd minute after a goal-less first half before Ramon Foster got the second in the 83rd minute.
