Danny Williams to chair JADCO Board
The appointment of Williams was officially announced yesterday at the post-Cabinet briefing held at Jamaica House by Minister of Information, Sandrea Faulkner and follows the wholesale resignation of the full board of JADCO last November. It was also announced that Cabinet had approved the appointment of a new slate of commissioners for the entity. The full board of JADCO is — Danny Williams (chairman), Dr Winston Isles, Gary Peart, Neville Williams, Dennis Lalor, Dr Thelma Nelson, Anthony Lawrence, Dr Patricia Holness, Carmen Tipling and two other members who were not named.
Minister Sandrea Falconer said Cabinet had also expressed its appreciation to the members of the previous board for their service. She said the new board will serve for three years ending in December 2016.
In November last year Minister with responsibility for Sport in the Office of the Prime Minister, Natalie Neita Headley, disclosed that the former board had resigned en bloc with effect from December 31.
“Quite recently, JADCO’s commissioners met and acknowledged that there is a public perception of the existence of conflicts of interests among some of the members of the commission. The commissioners have taken a decision, in the national interest and in order to facilitate the restructuring of JADCO, to tender their resignations, which will take effect on December 31, 2013. The Prime Minister respects the decision of the Commissioners and has accepted their resignations,” Neita Headley said then.
The new JADCO chairman is a former minister of government for the Industry and Commerce portfolio under the People’s National Party government of Michael Manley in the 1970s.
